Cardiff Slap On A £10m Price Tag.
Mon Jan 04, 2016 1:21 pm
From vital football.

Cardiff City have reportedly placed a whopping £10m price tag on Everton transfer target David Marshall.
The Premier League outfit, who drew 1-1 with Tottenham on Sunday, are keen on recruiting the Scotland international goalkeeper in the January transfer window as competition for fellow shot stoppers Tim Howard and Joel Robles.

The 30-year-old, who has 20 international caps for his country, has kept eight clean sheets in 20 league games for the Championship side so far this season.
Marshall, who is regarded as Russell Slade’s Bluebirds’ prized asset at the club, was the subject of a failed £5m bid from fellow Premier League rivals West Brom in the summer.

From Walesonline.

Cardiff City have issued a firm ‘hands off’ warning over captain David Marshall - slapping an astonishing £10m transfer fee on the goalkeeper!

The 30-year-old Scottish international is seen as one of the Bluebirds’ main assets and looks likely to attract interest from clubs in the Premier League during the January transfer window.

But sources at the club have told WalesOnline only ‘silly money’ will tempt them to sell Marshall.

Last summer West Brom tested Cardiff’s resolve to hold onto Marshall, seeing a £5m bid rejected . Already this month Everton manager Roberto Martinez has been linked with a move for the goalkeeper for a similar fee.

But sources at the club have denied interest from Everton, saying no enquiry has been made, although they acknowledge it is still early days in the January transfer window.

But the Bluebirds are determined to hold onto the man who garnered rave reviews for his performances during the club’s single season in the top-flight.

Reports have suggested Cardiff value Marshall at around £6m, but we understand the Bluebirds would only consider letting their skipper go for a massive fee, possibly even in the region of £10m.

A senior source at the club described Marshall as being regarded as ‘irreplaceable’ right now and totally essential if Russell Slade is to keep his side’s Championship play-off push on track in the second-half of the campaign.

The club do, however, accept the situation regarding Marshall, who in February 2014 signed a new contract to keep him at Cardiff until 2018, might be very different in the summer if the Bluebirds fail in their bid to be promoted to the Premier League.

Marshall was signed by Cardiff from Norwich in May 2009 for a fee worth £500,000. He has gone on to make 258 appearances for the Welsh club and was made captain by former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in September 2014 after Mark Hudson departed the Bluebirds.

The mirror reporting that Kenwyne Jones is finalising a deal with an Abu-Dhabi club. Wage rumoured to be a tax free 50K a week, meaning he still earns more than most premier league players.

Read somewhere that City might look at Kyle Lafferty, but apparently Leeds are looking favourites. Can't say that I will lose any sleep over that.

Don't rule out the Paul Lambert factor, too. He's the one who gave Pilks his breakthrough in the PL.

ens Park Rangers, Cardiff City, Birmingham City and Wolverhampton Wanderers are all reportedly interested in Conor Washington.

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has confirmed that he would not consider selling star striker Conor Washington, even if a £2 million offer was submitted

Washington has a clutch of Championship clubs chasing him in the January transfer window, but Posh are determined not to lose the 23-year-old on the cheap.

Queens Park Rangers have been said to be tracking the striker by the Mail, while the same paper says that Cardiff City, Birmingham City and Wolverhampton Wanderers all could be set to make a bid.

Washington has scored 12 goals in his last 13 matches in League One, but his price tag could put some teams off.

Birmingham have just received a big fee for Demarai Gray from Leicester City, but they would have to reinvest most of it to sign Washington.

QPR, Wolves and Cardiff, meanwhile, could all be set to lose key players in January - which would bring in the funds required to sign the former Newport County man.

Peterborough seem determined not to lose their main goalscorer though, as they bid for promotion from League One.

The Posh are currently in the play off spots in the third tier and they are the top scoring side in the Football League.

Washington seems to me to be a risk in the same way that Doyle was last year. There's a heck of a jump up between divisions these days.

Kenwyne Jones officially left to Al Jazeera - on loan for rest of contract. Seems to hint we have therefore let him go for a free transfer - considering the stupid wages they are paying, could be a missed opportunity for easy money.

Interesting turn of events - Jones via his Twitter account has claimed the club made no approach in regards to renewing his contract. Club claims they did approach but he wouldn't accept a wage cut. When was the last time we sold a player without controversy?

I think there was probably a suggestion to his agent that a new contract at City would involve lower wages, which was leaked to the Press. No doubt that had been anticipated and the Abu Dhabi move already lined up. No need for further negotiations as it works for everyone concerned.
