They'd be great if they considered themselves extra referees and not additional linesmen.
What is the difference? Powers wiseKamuza wrote:They'd be great if they considered themselves extra referees and not additional linesmen.
Edit: sorry predictive text.

What I mean is, Linesman basically see nothing except offside and often look at the ref before calling a throw in either way, and the goal line officials seem equally afraid of making decisions. If the 5th/6th officials starting giving penalties for off the ball shoves or began flagging players for diving, they'd be making a difference and improving the game. As it is, they could easily be replaced with a goal line camera.

Last night's Celtic game was ridiculous. Juve defenders were grappling and virtually rugby tackling at every corner in clear view of the officials. It was like watching a defence full of Ryan Shawcross clones.

Juventus are a good side and whoever they play next will have their hands full. A bit like Juve defenders last night who also had arms full as well. What I don't understand is why the officials do not take action when the grappling is so blatant and why UEFA appear quite happy to let this situation jog on. Juve players seemed to have the freedom of the park to do what they liked last night, especially when affording Buffon extra protection at corners and free kicks.
It's up there with diving in my book.
This needs to be sorted; it's another football "turnoff" which, has the musty reek of corruption about it.
Had Celtic behaved in a similar manner when defending, I'm sure a penalty would have resulted.
Have the 5th and 6th Officials ever contributed anything positive to a game? Or changed outcomes?
Right result - bad taste in the mouth.
