I'm sure Terry Phillips would be thrilled at the prospect of a Jones return

Whenever Dave Jones had money, he was rubbish. He had one way of playing, which was fantastic when it worked, but other teams soon worked it out. There's a reason he's not a Premier League manager.

I say no. Jones is a solid manager but terribly limited and yes he could be successful in the transfer market but he was also equally awful. I actually think Ole has been great with his acquisitions and leaves the club with a more balanced and complete squad with more depth than Malky did.

Ok, so Ole's appointment didn't work out but the thinking behind it was right - and I think that's why a fair portion of us are somewhat sad to see him go. He brought with him a philosophy and a hope, which sadly, didn't work for him or us this time. I would, however, like to see an appointment that continues that thinking and gets the best out of the squad Ole has built and not dismantle it and start over.

A nod for Pulis or Jones, while offering a short term stability, do not offer us long term progress and in my eyes is a step backwards not forwards. I'd rather write off this season and build something solid for next (a la Leicester & Southampton) and lay the foundations for following few seasons than get those guys in to guarantee promotion this season and face the prospect of another incoherent slog at Premiership level.

Good piece Arkay as I fully agree that a Dave Jones appointment would not be a good one.

I fear that Dave Jones could get the job, but that would probably highlight Tan's lack of football knowledge. Jones was tactically inept, incapable of developing youngsters and lacked any man-management skills. And Bellamy joining him in the setup would be a fiasco. Therefore I think re-appointing him would be a disaster as he simply isn't good enough.

All the names we have mentioned so far would be fine, with Pulis* and Zola top of the list, followed by Di Matteo. Hughton hasn't done enough and presided over the relegation of a very good Norwich team so I can't see him getting it. Why the WoS think Marcelo Bielsa is in the running is beyond me.

* I don't care if the football isn't attractive, I just want to watch a team that I feel is likely to win the majority of games they play and Pulis would provide this

Breaking - Craig Bellamy has just said on BT sport that Tan approached him to take over last season after the sacking of Malky, and prior to any move for Solskjaer. Predictably, his stock is soaring.

Lots of reports suggesting Tan wants to restructure things at the club. He wants a more European style, with a head coach rather than a manager, a director of football... That could be the difference in philosophy that was being talked about?

Dave Jones as DoF was rumoured a little while ago wasn't it? Can't see it myself.

I assume the announcement that Gabbs and Young are taking control for Saturday's game means that we won't be getting anyone in before then?
We've got a busy week - Sat, Tues, Fri. I hope we don't go too long before sorting something out.
