we have always tried to give rescue dogs a home and maisie is no exception. two, three years ago we lost charlie a cocker/labrador crossed bitch. her loss was raw, but angie eventually decided to go for a cocker spaniel and we saw maisie, a blue-roan cocker advertised on a dog rescue web-site.

she did not have a lot going for her except stunning good looks. maisie had been used as a breeding bitch on a dog farm in south wales. she probally had about 15 litters in a breeding career of about 6 years. when she was dumped at the animal charity, maisie was profoundly deaf and and had very limited vision.

six pups to a litter, times 15 litters, now you get the idea of the number of her pups that were sold and will no doubt inherit her blindness and deafness. i find it repugnant that people can be allowed to make a quick buck this way.

an elderly couple took her on and after three years the wife was knocked down and killed whilst going for walkies with maise. after a few months the husband put her up for re-homing, that is when we got involved.

maisie is now 13, occasionally gets carried away and runs into furniture, has to be kept on a lead when out, but dines like the princess she is. love her to bits
