He's very different to the rest of our strike force, who are small nimble players. Helguson on the other hand is a battering ram that can shove defenders out of the way and create space. He demands defenders full attention for this reason, and that can make space for Etien or Mason.
If it stays this way, I see us still playing with two strikers and two wingers in a 4-2-2-2 formation. I still think though we have too much quality in our midfield to waste it and it should be five strong, with a lone striker. If for example we got Jordan Rhodes, he fits perfectly into my idea. If we don't get anymore strikers now, stick with two strikers.
I agree and, furthermore, I think he might well be signing that will allow Earnie to move on.
That possibility was hinted at in another Wales Online article this morning.......which would be a shame, because reports say that he has looked more like his old self in the pre-season games......

A bit old now, and not sure if he still plays but will be better than Bothroyd.

Quote "Good in the air but under 6 foot - is he actually a target man?
100% yes. Heidar has proven himself an expert with his back to goal. His flick-ons are measured and sensible in respect to his surroundings and helped bring the creative players into play. In the Premier League his style did not change and it helped us to great effect at times. A case in point was his domination of Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium - a notoriously difficult place to get a result.
Has he played much as a lone striker for QPR?
In the Championship, certainly. Neil Warnock liked to adopt a 4-3-2-1 formation that meant that Heidar forayed up front and was tasked with holding the ball and bringing others into play. The calibre of flair players such as Adel Taarabt and Wayne Routledge thrived on this service."
Replace Taarabt and Routledge with Bellamy or Kimbo or Mason etc etc could work like a dream. Not a name to run to the streets about but a good signing all the same. We need a good balance of youth with raw talent and experienced players with a good attitude.
As long as Helguson leaving QPR doesn't pave the way for Bellamy to join them instead!

It's unlikely that Bellamy would be a replacement for Helguson, as they are completely different types of players and the nearest thing they have in common is age.
I don't think that the reports of Liverpool being willing to pay up part of Bellamy's contract can mean anything unless he is coming to City. Certainly can't see them doing that if he was off to another Premiership side.
Of course, QPR have plenty of money, so they could just pay Liverpool the £2m or whatever they would want. On the other hand, QPR have signed Junior Hoilett from Blackburn, so maybe their interest ended then.......

Would be a great signing imo.
Just as good as maynard if you ask me and he is on a free MM should be able to bring in another young talent now with the extra funds.

An I the only one that isn't excited by Maynard, at all? If we have the money, I'd still prefer handing over 7 or 8 million for Jordan Rhodes, who's been unbelievable all season, over someone everyone only assumes will do well.

Agree with you on Maynard.........he reminds me a bit a headless chicken at the times he has not gone missing from games and, also, I am not sure whether he would possess the right attitude for Malky.
