Is anybody using this marvellous invention? Basically, it gives you free storage space up in the cloud that maps across all your registered devices such as computers, phones and tablets etc. For example, you can set it to auto-upload photos and video from your phone, and then they will be available to view seamlessly on your pc/laptop/tablet, or any other computer through a web browser interface. You also have a public directory to use if you want to share some files with the world at large, and you can also set up private directories between two or more users. (See The Tour)
This got me thinking if we could't setup a shared folder for the esteemed members of Redbluebirds.com
If anybody wants to try it out, use my referral link and get an extra .5GB of storage space .. Click Here For A Free Signup

Five TERRABYTE?! Assuming you mean gigabyte then they shoudl all be available whever you have a network connection. No idea how fast a net connection would be out on safari though...
I am well aware of the difference between 5TB and 5Gb. I would expect to take 50Gb/day but yes 5Tb is too much, 500Gb is more like it. A 1Tb external drive would be the answer but there's only enough power to recharge batteries available. I suppose I'd better start building up my stock of SD cards. just as well prices have come down.
That's a lot of photos. I've had a digital camera for about 10 years now and I uploaded all my pictures to Google Drive a few weeks back, 18gb.
If you're shooting in RAW format with multiple frames all day you could easily do 50Gb.
I have a similar problem when travelling and shooting. I have a stock of about 12 x class 10, 16gb cards (about £12 on Amazon, I think) and use them on rotation backing up to a laptop and/or hard drive every few days or so. If power is a problem then you can also buy spare batteries from 7dayshop.com for next to nothing (they are decent quality too). You then might be able to recharge these on rotation and alternate between that and backing up.

Christ, that's a lot of data to be backing up...
Yeah, it's the downside of using a DSLR on a trip as each photo can be around 25mb each, if not more

If conditions are good I often do up to 3,000 in a day (say 30Gb). I expect them to be V good so will be surprised if I don't do a min of 5,000. I expect to ditch between 80-90% by the final cut. However I have to get all 100% back home before I can decide on what to keep and work on.
I don't intend to spend the evenings sorting photos when I can be comparing scars with a few other photographers drinking and singing I want to go home whilst there is nothing resembling any impedance to the Indigenous carnivores around us.
There is nothing in this world worth experiencing more than the territorial growlings of a male lion in the dark except maybe a pack of hyenas trying to take away a pride of lions' kill, again at night. Night time heightens the senses to ridiculous levels because you can't always tell from which direction the sounds are coming from. It's just as well that fear paralyses you on the spot 'cos there's little you could do if in real danger. The first time I'd heard such a thing turned my legs to jelly. The following day I discovered the lion was about 500 mtrs away behind a fence but I didn't know that at the time. It felt like he was stood no more than 20 mtrs away.

There are some storage devices that allow you to back-up SD cards without using a pc/laptop.

Dropbox is good for viewing your data between computers, phone and tablet.
It's a no-brainer if you have a smartphone or tablet
It's not really the right tool to take to a place that has no power available for an extended periods of time, but there again your tablet or smartphone would be pretty useless too

Epson do one. I'm sure there are some newer devices out there though.

Found one http://www.storagedepot.co.uk/digital-photo-storage/xs-drivesmart-2300-500gb.html
Not cheap and the transfer rate is nothing to crow about. I'll probably invest in more cards and a card carrier.

How much are cards nowadays?
They used to be expensive and small in capacity, and that's why a market emerged for disk based storage devices.
I suppose they may have become redundant by now

Roughly 50p/Gb. 16Gb seems to be the one most widely viewed but they go up to 32Gb. By this time next year it wouldn't surprise me if it's 10p/Gb and up to 128Gb capacity.
