I think this is a good time to be playing Villa. They weren't anything special last year and haven't got going yet this one. No Jack Grealish today, which can only be good for the spectator.
Opinion is that Mendez-Laing should get the nod over Hoilett. I wonder whether they both might start, as at one point against Portsmouth, they were both over on the right wing and causing havoc. Villa didn't like being bullied last year. Gunnarsson, Mendez-Laing and Zohore could have a field day today. Damour is slotting in well and is starting to look a very good all round midfielder. Warnock likes Ralls, but, as is being said, it's great to have options.
On the negative side, Bruce has the edge on Warnock in head to head games 9 - 2, so he knows how to play against his teams.
I still take Warnock to get the team right and for City to get the win, so will go 2 - 1.

Losing wouldn't be the end of the world - most teams are going to lose to villa this season - but what a boost a win would be.
I agree on the Mendez- Laing thing. The one thing John Terry certainly doesn't have anymore is pace, so it's probably our best way of getting past him.

Hopefully they haven't gelled yet and our pace can unsettle their veterans at the back. Draw for me as well.

Tomlin appears to be lacking match fitness - he was one of the few first teamers that wasn't rested for the cup game. Must say in the photos he looked a little uncomfortably on the chubby side...
Anyway decent lineup considering. Time to see if Etheridge is the real deal or he had an easy debut...

1 - 0 HT. Villa having most of possession without looking threatening. Nice header from M-L from Hoilett cross and it could easily have been 2 - 0 - off the line from Zohore and then Damour.

A team picked to scrap it out, which they are doing. Damour looking more of a bargain all the time.
