First topic message reminder :
Did anyone else watch it tonight? I know we are not scottish, but it will impact us all non the less.
They both gave it a good go but by the end I thought Salmond came out on top.
For me, this whole debate has very close connotations with the whole EU issue that seems to be gaining prominence at the the moment. A lot of what Alex Salmond said tonight, I could easily imagine the clown Nigel Farage saying about England.
On saying that, if I were Scottish, I would probably vote for independence.

Don't know to much about the whole indepenence debate, Don't want to neither it bores the s**t out of me, and I can't stand Alex Salmon - anyway I think Scotland staying is prob for the best really
Well, westminster has promised the Scottish a lot to be honest and there is already talk amongst a lot of MP's that it is unfair to give powers to Scotland, to set their own income tax for example, and then be allowed to vote on income tax levels for the rest of the UK which will then not apply to them.
The UK constitution looks like it is set for some major changes, perhaps to even set up a separate English government too - looks like we are heading towards a federal system as a result :/
Apparently Cameron is set to announce some major changes later today.

Now the West Lothian question needs to be solved whereby Scottish MP's not only swing the vote on which government we have but influence how the rest of the UK is run whilst we have virtually no say in their affairs.
For the first time ever, I have sympathy with the English as the only country in the UK whose affairs are controlled by the other three countries but have no independent governance of their own.
Time for an English Assembly in line with ourselves Sotland & NI.

It looks like the power to vote on non-Scottish-rest-of-the-UK matters will be taken away from the Scottish MPs, which will solve that issue.

I shouldn't think that anyone aged 98 or older needs to be too concerned about that............

It's a shame certain sections of the debate, on both sides, resorted to such childish antics. Maybe I'm being naive but the fighting on the streets, the blatant accusations of poll rigging on both sides, the abuse now being thrown about on Twitter - I hoped we'd be beyond this. Looking on YouTube there are tonnes of videos apparently showing rigging but there's no balance to which 'skde' was apparently being rigged. My favourite video showed a woman exchanging one pile of papers for another - some claimed she was moving yes votes to no votes, others claimed it was no votes to yes votes. Others even claimed they weren't even ballot papers she was moving, simply attendance registers

I've worked on the elections for years and it's virtually impossible to carry out vote rigging. Polling staff are watched like hawks by tellers and that sort of thing doesn't happen.
I think the yes campaign didn't behave well in the run up to the election and are now bad losers.
p.s. I'm off to Cyprus for a week tomorrow so this board will be devoid of insightful comment and cutting wit for seven days if I can't get online.

Well I will still be here, meaning there will be no drop in the excellent humour expected. However, I'm going to Cyprus for two weeks in ten days and during that time I fear for you all.
