From the BBC News website, can anyone explain to me what this means.......?
....Owner Anton Zingarevich was delighted to welcome Adkins to the Berkshire club, and said it was an appointment for the "short and long term".
....surely it is therefore a long term appointment, but perhaps something has got lost in the translation.......

My guess would be, short term to steer them clear of relegation this season, and long term.......for the first half dozen games next season (assuming he succeeds in the short term, of course).

my initial reaction was short term in the premiership and long term in the championship and still is

Nope!
There may well be short term and longer term aims, but the appointment itself can ony be short term or long term.
Not much hope for this lot, as Mr Adkins starts his interview with " We will take it one game at a time........"
