I didn't 'support' a team until I went to uni. As I've said before I'm from Birmingham and my family consider themselves Birmingham city fans but they rarely go to matches anymore so I never developed much of an interest in them. At uni I fell in with a group of friends that were all City fans and my partners family also turned out to be followers, so I ended up going to games. It all started from there recently, I caught the football bug and don't think I my memory I've missed a match since.

I find that fascinating. You can understand how people "fall in love" with the top 6 teams in the premier league, despite not being from there, as all they're really doing is enjoying the trophy ride they might get. That you have a genuine love for Cardiff City despite having no connection is a credit to you sir!

Coming at this from a different direction, I am Cardiff born & bred, but have lived in many places in the UK in the past 40 years.
Although pitching up to many league games, I have never been able to take to any of my local teams, apart from Spurs, who were always as unpredictable and every bit as frustrating as City. I will still try to watch Spurs if they are on the box.
I certainly have never wanted to ditch my City loyalty in favour of another, not even for Elgin or Inverness Caledonian Thistle...........

Spurs have always been my 'second' team, for no other reason than Jimmy Greaves was my childhood hero.TDA wrote:Coming at this from a different direction, I am Cardiff born & bred, but have lived in many places in the UK in the past 40 years.

(pointing at TDA until Tonks got in there)
Supporting City is one of the last real connections I have to where I grew up. I'm no Welsh-nationalist by any means (quite the contrary, actually) but I can't contain my sense of emotion or pride when City do something really actually very good. Last year's Carling Cup Final being the prime example - the little City where I came from giving it good to multiple European Champions Liverpool. Feckin' priceless!

Born in Sunderland and got my love for football there as I was living there when they won the FA cup in 73. Too young to go though as the old man had no interest in football (weird I know).
Anyway moved to Cardiff aged 6 and started going down shortly afterwards tagging along with a neighbour who was a season ticket holder.
