Today was something of a bummer but:
1: Craig Noone isn't still in Carlos Edwards's pocket
2: Malky took a step closer to working out that Don Cowie cannot play wide in a 4-5-1 because he depsn't have the pace to mutate the formation into 4-3-3
3: Rudi played and didn't get injured
4: We play again in two days
5: 3 points from consecutive away games is ok

Yeah, you make some good points.
Although how much closer is Malky on your second point - it might take most of the rest of the season for it to finally sink in I think.
For Malky, Cowie is this seasons Miller - unwavering confidence.

Well Helguson seems to be finding the sort of form that made Malky Coleman/Chris Mackay sign him which is a BIG plus.
I do think we've learnt from the game as well, the Cowie point is a good one and hopefully that will sink in.
Big problems for me though are the huge defensive frailties of Taylor, his defensive inability is costing us and maybe we need to play Connolly left back and bring Turner in at centre back to shore us up.
And Gunnarrsson (however it's spelt) is looking a bit out of his depth, and his long, slow throws are pointless.
Let's get Kiss in the team to run around like a nutter!

Connolly is an attacking defender, he's highlighted already he's a threat going forward but he's somewhat prone to poor defending skills. He might well be more suited to a wing role for that reason. You are however swapping a decent attacking but poor defending player, with a decent attacking and only slightly better defending player. I think a January signing is what's truly needed there, but it might be worth a shot.
However, thinking about it, we'd be playing our three first team centre backs all simultaneously, it leaves us wide open for potential injury crisis'. Best to keep one benched just in case, realistically.

Gunnarsson played much more effectively at the start of last season when he was deeper in midfield. I'm not sure where he was played yesterday, but I agree that Kiss should be in for him, if for no other reason, but to rotate the squad.
However, I think he would inject a bit of life into a one paced midfield......

Deep as in attacking mid, or deep as in defending mid? I've heard both terms used so I always get a bit confused.
Ill go by what I think you mean though, and assume almost as a defensive midfielder. In this case, it could work. We have Whitts who is so much better played in an advanced midfield role, so creating a diamond midfield is really what this is calling for. Once Mutch returns the problem returns though as he seems to be much more of a 'classic' midfielder.

At home, lets see a 4-4-2. Midfield of Smith, Mutch, Whitts and Noone. Attack of Bellamy and Helguson. Gestede should replace Bellamy when the time is needed, Conway replaces Smith as an impact sub. Make it happen Malky.
