Posted this on the other board as well, but could start a decent discussion...
The debate of 'best player in the world' always ends up being an argument between two players: Ronaldo & Messi.
So who for you is the best behind these two?

For me it has to be Andres Iniesta.
You know someone is class when it takes half of the opposing team to try and regain possession from them.

I hope this is a joke.
Pirlo is overhyped in my opinion. Yes he can pass, so can Whittingham if given as much space as he was given. The fact is that Gerrard and Parker both gave him far too much space thinking he was an old player who was past it. Add to that the fact that Italy controlled the game in the second half when Pirlo was more effective which meant he obviously had more time given how deep England were. I could name 10 players now better than him.

Iniesta IMO. Absolute different class to everyone else excluding Messi and Ronaldo. Ozil could be another contender though.
Andy Legg would have been up there in his day?
For me, my guess at a breakthrough world class player for this coming season has to Papiss Cisse. I can't imagine him staying at Newcastle next season and I would guess that he is going to be even more amazing and really become a big name. Not 3rd in the world though.

3rd best = one of Iniesta / Xavi / Ozil.
Kaka would have been a contender once, but has undergone a similar demise to Torres of late.
These 'best player' lists are always full of forwards/midfielders, poor old defenders are unappreciated in my view.
2 of my all-time favourite players are Franco Baresi and Fernando Hierro. Just saying like.
