Wales Online suggests starts for Smith, John and Connolly...plus Hudson on the bench!

"Malky will not reveal his team until just before kick-off"

So where is Wales Online's 'understanding' coming from? Pure guesswork?

So he reckons:

City (probable): D Marshall; M Connolly, S Caulker, B Turner, D John; P Whittingham, G Medel,  Kim; T Smith, C Bellamy (capt); F Campbell.

It doesn't take a genius to work out it probably will be 8 or 9 of those in the starting XI.

Disappointed by Smith and Slumdog Snr said Connolly's distribution against Bilbao was poor

Smith seemed to get a lot of game-time at the end of pre-season, so that's where he's got that prediction from. Think John, Caulker, Turner, Connolly at the back is almost certain.

I have a feeling that we may also see Cowie in the first instance, not Medel......

......or, it could be Cowie and Medel at the expense of Smith, with Kim pushing on to support Campbell.......whichever, it is, Malky is going to stick to the tight smothering type of game he is comfortable with.......

I suppose it depends on fitness levels e.g. I'd be surprised to see Mutch suddenly make an appearance. John has proved his fitness and might just get the nod over Lappin, who I'm totally unconvinced about, to replace the suspended Taylor. Connolly or Brayford is a tough one as neither have over-impressed - why haven't we ever tried Hudson at right back? In midfield, why on earth would you play either Smith or Cowie if Gunnar is available? The only certainties would appear to be those who have impressed pre-season: Marshall, Caulker, Turner, Kim and Campbell.

I think the team that played against Athletico Bilbao was very close to the starting line-up for the West Ham game. However having signed Medel I've a feeling MM will play him alongside Gunnarson to give the defence extra protection. Whitts, Kimbo and Bellamy will play in front of them with Campbell as the lone striker.
Connolly was poor against Bilbao so Brayford might well get the nod over him.

If that's the team for Saturday, then Malky is going to be bitterly disappointed.

Heading for a caning.
