On the plus side, if Malky is first choice then he could be in talks by now whereas they can't really do anything about Martinez until Wigan's fate is sealed.

Exactly my concern. However, if Martinez turns them down next week, which he might, they will then come looking for Malky, so several wasted weeks from City's point of view.

If Everton qualify for Europe, which looks likely, and Wigan get relegated, which is also looking odds on, then I really would be VERY surprised if Martinez turned them down.

If Everton were to approach Malky, and if he was minded to consider it, then it's up to VT to convince him that it's not a better offer.

Contrary to Sam Hamman's belief, we are NOT Barcelona. Therefore, our managers are always going to be subject to speculation if they are doing well. It's annoying, yes, but also a compliment and I would much rather a manager with ambition and an eye on his future and doing a GREAT job for us, than a totally committed manager who is doing a half-arsed job. Ideally, of course, we'd have both but that's highly unlikely given the size of our club and the nature of football.

We can't have our cake and eat it boys (and Kate).
