But he is not going to confirm or deny. It's not the place to announce a departure if he is going and as he probably hasn't yet had a formal approach, he will just say he is flattered to be linked to the job by the bookies.... etc

That's pretty much what he said.

On listening to what Malky said, I felt uneasy when he passed the question as to whether it was a Yes or No, on to Laudrup. That way he avoided, rather crudely, having to confirm his position. So, my take on that performance is that he would seriously consider an offer. I just hope he isn't given an offer.

I think he's gone.
Hope Bellamy has VT's ear enough to make him choose a sensible replacement.

He was in an impossible position as was Laudrup. It was impossible for either to give a definitive answer to the question. My view is that Everton will not do anything until Wigan's season is done - they cannot approach Martinez until he knows if they are up or down.
I fear Moyes may recommend Malky but Kenwright must also want to look at Martinez who has a PL record unlike Malky. By the weekend we will know whether we are losing him or not.

That's my take on it, as I have said in another thread, but this will be an unnecessarily unsettling week for our club, particularly if Malky isn't interested......in which case, come out and say it.......However, if he can't make that commitment, just fire him now, as he obviously has half an eye elsewhere......
That may seem harsh, but having avoided the playoffs, we had an extended time to plan for next season, which will be the most important in the club's history and we need someone at the helm who is fully committed to that end, not only if nothing better comes along!

I think it's unrealistic to expect us, or anyone else, to be able to recruit a manager who would remain fully committed to the club even if something better came along.
If Everton were to approach Malky, and if he was minded to consider it, then it's up to VT to convince him that it's not a better offer.

The advantage of automatic promotion was that it gave us a head start on planning and recruitment. My worry now is that nothing is being done while this is dragging on.
On the plus side, if Malky is first choice then he could be in talks by now whereas they can't really do anything about Martinez until Wigan's fate is sealed.

Exactly my concern. However, if Martinez turns them down next week, which he might, they will then come looking for Malky, so several wasted weeks from City's point of view.
