Very good player who peaked far too early and was unfortunately blighted by injuries. That partnership with Shearer at Newcastle, even though they were rarely fit at the same time, was breathtaking on times. Think he might actually make a decent manager too, seems quite a calm, calculated, knowledgable guy.

I don't think he peaked early, but it was the knee injury that did for him and that was a real shame.

I have no doubt that if he had kept that speed & sharpness, he would have gone on to be one of the all-time England greats

Great player, but he's a right prat off the pitch. I find it hard to feel sorry for him when he's so arrogantly assumed he's still one of the best in the world and refused to drop a division. He could still do a job in the championship, yet his ego is getting in the way again.

Very few players are able financially to bow out whist still playing at the highest level, so good luck to him.

He obviously realises that he can't continue to do it in the Premiership, but I can understand his reluctance to drop down.

Retiring from what? Pretending to be a Premier League footballer?

I remember an article in 442 about the top 20 young talents in the UK. Owen was number (he hadn't made his full debut at that point) and number 2 was Lee Jarman. Didn't quite pan out for our man.
