An important game tonight

I just get a sense that tonight is a going to a pivotal game... opponents that are, on paper, on slightly weaker than us, a team though that serious promotion contenders should expect to beat.
For the last few seasons we have always seemed to struggle with the mid-to-low table teams and when I look back at the points tally at the end of the season, it's dropped points against the likes of Preston that are so disappointing.
Now I know Preston are a solid team, hard to beat and they've had a good start to the season, but I feel we need to be beating these types of teams, as well as the favoured clubs, to really give it a go this year.
If we win tonight, we'll be putting down a real marker.

I think we will win. 3 points today and another good result.
I noticed Leeds are also still unbeaten, they seem to be a real force this season and will be up there at the end of the season

Rhys.......I think you should reconsider the title of this thread. It reads like something that someone else would put up, but your post is far more objective and not negative.

Preston is not a place that we have done very well in recent seasons, but I do fancy us to get a result of sorts tonight. Will be interesting to see the starting XI (that's "eleven" Rhys), as the subs did well when they came on at Fulham.
Yes, fair play. The message morphed a little as I wrote so the topic title ended up not reflecting the point I was making. Changed it!TDA wrote:Rhys.......I think you should reconsider the title of this thread. It reads like something that someone else would put up, but your post is far more objective and not negative.
well remembered, Roman numerals are confusing!TDA wrote:Preston is not a place that we have done very well in recent seasons, but I do fancy us to get a result of sorts tonight. Will be interesting to see the starting XI (that's "eleven" Rhys), as the subs did well when they came on at Fulham.

I begon your pardon sirs but I'm mistaken, here are the last 5 times we played Preston.
Not quite the bogey team I thought they were
25 Apr 2011 | Preston North End v Cardiff City | W | 0-1 | League Championship |
17 Oct 2015 | Preston North End v Cardiff City | D | 0-0 | League Championship |
27 Feb 2016 | Cardiff City v Preston North End | W | 2-1 | League Championship |
13 Sep 2016 | Preston North End v Cardiff City | L | 3-0 | League Championship |
31 Jan 2017 | Cardiff City v Preston North End | W | 2-0 | League Championship |

In fairness, I was on the same page as you but it seems result prove otherwise.
It could be I'm still harking back to that 6-0 horror show we endured up at Deepdale all those years ago. That game scarred me for life not least because we screwed up our promotion so badly but I was dumped the day before and thought to console myself I'd watch Soccer Saturday (on Freeview in those days) and drown my sorrows with some tasty beers while watching the Mighty City (who were on a roll at that point) secure their play off place...

I just admit I'm very much in the same mindset I was in our promotion season - no matter how good our results become, I still feel like we are on the edge of freefalling the table. Don't get me wrong I think I'm witnessing some of the best football I have ever seen from the team, but it still feels like a fairytale everyone is about to wake up from.

Warnock has only lost once to Preston in his last sixteen attempts. Admittedly that maybe doesn't mean much but we are on a good run while they are won 2, lost 1, drawn 3

Wouldn't be too surprised to see Bryson and Ward starting tonight.
