....but Tony Pulis has just said in an interview that if he was offered the Cardiff City job, he probably would of accepted.

Tony_Pulis wrote:It would have been wonderful in many respects to have gone back to Wales and to have taken over a football club that has the potential to back into the Premiership.

It would have been wonderful to have got it back in the Premiership and established it but that wasn't to be.

I never got a phone call and that's fine

I still think Pulis would have been the best bet for a 'safe pair of hands' in terms of on the field results and trying to achieve promotion.

However something tells me that Slade is a better fit when it comes to settling everything down behind the scenes and having less dramas between manager and owner/board and that is something that would be very welcome right now. If Slade can deliver promotion too then his appointment will have been a very wise move.

I think he's an excellent manager but a bit of a control freak!
He's fallen out with less demanding Chairmen than Vinnie.

I don't know if Slade is the man for the job yet but I have enjoyed the football that I have so far seen under him (which is promising) and I'm not sure I would've said that had Pulis been in charge.

I'm so glad we didn't go for Pulis.

Pulis would have been the safe option, but perhaps credit to VT (or Glenn Roeder) for identifying Slade. He appears to be "Pulisesque" in the discipline he instills in his teams, but also delivers pretty good football.

Longer term and like Malky, he may not be the man for the PL, as has been suggested by WO today, but "horses for courses" and, so far, he is shaping up to be what will be needed for this Championship season.

From the limited amount of games we have seen Slade manage us in so far, he appears to have been a good appointment. Beating two very in form teams is no mean feat with a team lacking confidence and understanding.

To be fair, we saw off both comfortably as well. This wasn't a case of just our future turning a we actually started to look like that team that was too good to be in the championship.

Not sure that I would go that far, just yet but certainly look like a team that should be comfortably top 10 in the Championship.............a good result at Millwall and maybe I'll revise that forecast........... Not to ruin the good spirit or anything... 692773407

I am going to echo TDA's note of caution too. The manner of our victories in the two games have been a cause for optimism but it has only been two games and they have both been at home. So many teams see an immediate improvement with a new manager for a few games but then struggle to keep it up.

We have the squad to find the kind of consistency we want but the next 4 games up to the next international break will tell us a lot. 3 of them are away from home where so far we have failed to pick up a win all season in the league. If we really are too good for the division then 8 points or more should not be too difficult. If it is achieved then i will be confident we can make the play offs and challenge for more.
