A report here suggests that Arsenal have opened talks with City for Marshall and would be willing to pay up to £8m.

I think the £15M touted figure was just to make sure clubs understood they couldn't go too low but £8M would be moving into the range where i think the club would have to seriously consider selling. If they or anyone else offered £10m then i am pretty Marshall would be on his way - assuming the move suited him too. Will Arsene be willing to spend that much for someone who it is thought would be back up keeper though?

Agreed. £8M-£10M is about right if you ask me. I do think that given his performances last season, he should be considered by any club signing him as a starter though.

Will Marshall want to be a back up keeper at Arsenal though?

Marshall is 29 where as Szczesny is only 24 I believe - Unless Szczesny moves on or gets crapper, I can see Marshall playing second fiddle for the whole time he is at the club. Is it worth it?

Good point Rhys. Second string to a keeper in his mid to late 30's and he may be thinking of biding his time but back up to someone younger than him could well be a poor move. I am kind of hoping that no one puts in the required bid and we get to hang on to him for next season.

Would be so typical Arsenal if this happened. Screaming out for a striker yet they blow 8 million on an ageing keeper who will be only backup to their first team. The only part that would surprise me is that someone finally convinced Arsene to get out the chequebook...

To be fair 29 is hardly aging for a keeper. Even so it seems unlikely to me that he is going to spend that much on a keeper who probably would start the season ( and maybe finish it) as second choice.
