Five a side rules -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five-a-side_football
There's no offside in five a side.
In 'normal' football, the offside rule is quite complicated, but the basic rule is that you're offside if, when the ball is passed to you, there are less than 2 players between you and the opposition goal line.
A fuller explanation is here -

Hi and welcome to the forum. I don't know who told you we were a "fun bunch", but I am sure he will not be let out again until deemed not a danger to society.
I haven't played 5 a side for many years but the main rule was that the ball is not allowed to be above head height! If it does, free kick against offending side.
There is no offside in five a side, but only players allowed inside the "D" are the goalkeepers. Defenders encoaching give away penalty.
............well, those are the rules from 20 years ago.........

is this a wind up?
I'm trying to do some research but feel really defeated by it all.... I am writing a comedy about a football team and I need to make it sound realistic, I have NO experience of a tournament so just trying find out how to make it interesting and engaging. I have been to one football game in Cardiff but that's it really.... I am just gathering info.
