Anybody else think this is going to stay 1-1?
Bit harsh Rhys considering they've been incredibly successful under Wenger. He took them from something of a midtable slump to double winners in only his second season and many a glory afterwards (The Invincibles, anyone?). They may not have won a trophy for a while but they've never failed to qualify for the Champions League and never failed to get past the Group Stage in all that time (17 years, is it?). Not even Ferguson can say that.Rhys wrote:They blew it last night, unlucky. I can't help but feel that they will never fulfill their potential under Arsene
He's also revolutionised their training methods/nutrition and is often cited as a proponent of the modern sport science model for Premier League clubs. Wenger was also highly influential in moving them from Highbury to the Emirates and they still remain one of the few clubs without significant debt and a positive turnover.
Lastly, they went toe-to-toe with Borussia Dortmund yesterday evening - last year's Champions League Runners Up. A team currently in second place (only to Bayern and only by 1 point) in what is regarded as perhaps the best league in the world at the moment. I also happen to think they were a might unlucky to lose - a draw would've been a fairer result but as Wenger stated afterwards they were a bit naive pushing forward in order to get the win they thoroughly believed they could have got.
Not fulfilling their potential? The only reason they still have any and continue to compete at the top of the table is due to him. He may not be perfect (who is?) but he's a world class manager and has proven time and time again.
There was a quote on twitter last night from @ffwtbol that caught my eye. I don't always agree with this fella but I totally concur with him here:
"Arsenal fans don‘t deserve this team. Moaning and groaning at every misplaced pass."
You only have to take a sly look at Man Utd fans right now to see exactly what Arsenal would be like and how much they will miss him if and when Wenger goes.
Apologies Rhys - that was rather a long reply.
The Arsenal fans (and sometime media agencies) berating of their manager is a reeeeeaaal bugbear of mine. Piers Morgan in particular is the worst with regard to this. I'm no Arsenal fan but I can see what he has achieved and I would happily murder Malky in cold blood while he slept clutching a puppy if it meant we could have him here.
