Marshall: The best goalkeeper in the division?
Page 1 of 1 • Share
Malky has come out again to claim he has the best keeper in the league and would be most surprised if Marshall is left out of the team of the year, Nathan Blake agrees.
To be fair, it is hard to disagree, Marshall has been amazing this year, 16 clean sheets. I distinctly remember thinking after a number of games this season, that he had saved our ass with a massive save. He's been brave and strong but, ability wise, do you agree he is the best?
He's clearly been helped with an immense back four which would allow any good keeper to shine. There are two other keepers that comes to mind that I think would have excelled in our squad. Leed's Paddy Kenny and Leicester's Schmeichal - both these players are amazing and if they were playing for us, I think Marshall would have a job on his hands keeping ahold of the number 1 jersey. What does everyone else think?

Marshall has been outstanding this season. His save on Saturday was one of his best, but there have been numerous others which have earned us quite a few points.

Julian Speroni at Crystal Palace will probably get the nod ahead of Marshall.

Interestingly, neither Marshall nor Speroni have made the Football League's Championship team of the week at all this season. There have been 17 different keepers in there over the season so far, with the most selections (4) going to Middlesbrough's Jason Steele.
Not sure what this says about goalkeeping performances, or indeed the FL's selection policy.....

By far the best goalkeeper. In seasons past he's been somewhat unfairly criticised, but this season I honestly think he's done no wrong. He even seems to have stopped giving the ball away needless with the ball in his hand.
I've always thought that Lee Camp was also one of the best keepers in the league. Badly treated by Forest this season.

The FL Actim Index stats for top 5 keepers:
1 David Marshall = 483 Cardiff
2 Julian Speroni = 444 Crystal Palace
3 Tomasz Kuszczak = 438 Brighton
4 Kasper Schmeichel = 437 Leicester
5 Jason Steele = 422 Middlesbrough
Marshall was prone to the occasional error early in the season but has made some fantastic saves throughout. He is also much better at dealing with crosses/corners than in previous years.
Kuszczak is probably the best opposition keeper I've seen in 2012/13.
I don't rate Schmeichel or Speroni that highly, and Steele often 'throws one in' (e.g. against Hull on the weekend).
