i think a lot would depend on how potential players view us, either as one term wonders or a club with the potential to develop still further. i know that does not put names in boxes, but worth a thought

I'm sure the money will be available as it was this year but the real issue is how the manager chooses to spend it? I guess we have some idea based on Malky's approach in the past two years but the reality is that we will be in a completely different world if we go up. Has the experience and right network of agents and contacts to bring in the best players who can help us stay there and prosper? The jury is out!

I think QPR has shown that money isn't everything if it isn't spend correctly,The type of players Southampton brought in would be the type I would expect Malky to go for.
There spent just over 20mil if I remember correctly.

Splashing out millions on a whole new squad would be a stupid and disastrous decision, as QPR are showing. It doesn't matter if on paper you are a much more talented squad than the teams around you if you fail to bond as a unit. Teams like Wigan show how more effective a good team ethos is over individual talent.
Assuming we have a budget of say 30 million, I'd much rather see us spend roughly eight million each on a new target man, a new winger, a new centreback and a new right back. You keep the bulk of the team intact but strengthen those weak roots. Going out and spending 3 million pounds on ten completely new outfield players would probably massively improve the 'average' talent of the squad, but i don't think it would improve our chances much
In terms of the 'type' of player we might get - my confidence in Malky is still knocked in this department. Id like to see some flair, the kind that's been injected by players like Michu for Swansea. A winger to work alongside Whitingham but show real skill in his short control and be able to instigate moves that tear defences apart. I want Cardiff City's version of Iniesta, basically. But I'm not convinced based on the evidence Malky approves of very much flair in his squad - i point primarily to the favouring of Conway over Noone.

I think Malky will supplement the squad with quality and experienced players at the tail end of their careers.
He is by nature cautious and I can't see any other approach other than trying not to lose games.
That said, we do have Campbell, hopefully Maynard back, presumably Bellamy and Mason and dare I say Velcro waiting in the background.
I said this a few days ago, but I feel that Peter Crouch would be absolutely ideal alongside what we already have.
Back to the original topic, although he may not have been interested in January, once promoted City might become and altogether more attractive proposition for him.

I'd be massively happy with Peter Crouch. Criminally underused by England in my opinion just because he doesn't play for a 'big' team.

That would all change if he signed for us as we're bigger than Barcelona. Ahem.

I don't think so, as Tan said as much in his tv interview. He will be far more interested in keeping City in the Prem, as that is where the return on his investment will come from. TV revenues are massive from next season, with the club finishing bottom of the Prem reputedly still receiving £60m.
The longer the club is in the Prem, the better the exposure in the Far East, which again holds tremendous potential for Tan.
