Malky Mackay made an approach recently for out of favour Sunderland striker Frazier Campbell, he had permission to speak to the player but Campbell did not want to step down a division.
Malky and his staff are looking to bring in a striker and a defender before the loan window shuts two weeks today.
I am also aware that there will are two players lined up for for January and if both cannot be signed permanent then they will loans until the end of the season.

I know we have tried to sign Emmanuel Frimpong before and he's now available on loan as he has said he wants to play in the Championship until the end of the season. He's a tough guy...and Wenger has said if he doesn't sign a contract ASAP he's going...is he one of the guys coming to us?
