First topic message reminder :
so as a new board it's doing great in terms of membership, but what's next on getting this MB to rival CCMB and AAMB?
Brainstorm / Ideas?

Then you need a politics section for the croesy and blue plato types.
Then you need another section possibly for blogging so members can have their own thread to write up their own views there so others can read it.
Its all expansion thats needed to appeal to a larger range of audience. If this forums offers more in a better structured manner where trolls cant easily destroy a thread people will come here. The reason the politics discussion died down on CCMB for a bit was because trolls were hijacking serious discussions and annoying those who wanted serious talk.
Not sure if I am a fan of separate forums myself. I like all the thread titles to be in one place, so I can dip in and out, and I also like to be surprised by the ridiculous.
This topic has been done to death on another forum BTW :laughingabit:
Totally understand, but would like this MB to expand and not just go by the wayside if you catch my drift.
Yep, a proper debate would be good without any snipers or trolls :P

I'm in as long as we keep our heads above water
Mmhhhh....lets garner a few more opinions! Anyone fancy setting up a poll with different options for the topic of a new room? political room etc (I would do it put I am typing from my phone which makes it difficult!)
Personally, I agree with ------- and I like the buzz and randomness you get from one main room. But happy to trial an extra room if people want it. If it dies a death then it'll swiftly be removed. But that's what trials are for though right?

Im not a fan of them either personally but they offer many advantages.
Less trolls vacating to the threads on special topics and less threads getting lost due to drifting down the list onto previous pages. I was hoping to set up a page on FIFA about modding on the PC and online games in which everyone can converse and hoping it could expand to other games too. Obviously it'd be bad if that was just drifting about in the football discussion area.

As longs as everyone who has already got stuck in, involved and is enjoying keeps on visting/posting, we should be alright - if we need build momentum over 15 odd years like mike's board, then so be it (although I dint think any of us would want to take that long!)

Also Rhys, having a technology and gaming section might attract neutrals from abroad who take an interest in the City and then follow them because of the new brand image. You never know, its worth a go and members currently using the site will use those areas regardless. I'm certainly looking forward to a media section - gaming, television, films, music - could have recommendations from users on games they have played, films in the cinema, television series and so forth. Great idea.
There's nothing more likely to turn people away from a messageboard (especially a new one) than seeing an undynamic board.
If you go into a forum and see threads that have not been commented on in a long time and not much movement, you'll consider it unpopular.
That was the success of the CCMB. With all topics on one board it was fast paced, dynamic and easy to dip in and out of.
This board has had that dynamism in the past couple of days, I've been watching closely. Sometimes it goes a bit quiet but generally it has zipped along and the board has changed with each refresh of the page which is exactly what I was hoping would happen.
If we started splitting the board into topics now then not only would the boards slow down but people would miss threads that they might have commented in if they'd seen them on the main page.
That is my empassioned plea to keep it all on one page.

Good argument. We could also move them later once the audience gets bigger I suppose. I'll just create my thread in the main section for now.

When this board has hundreds of members, split it into sections like Tech, Films, Music, Science etc. For now keep it on one or two to maximise views, if they have to trawl through sub sections they will go.
Daily polls
User contests ( ego stroking  )
A section for gaming, where people can trade PSN/GT/Steam IDs etc. and meet up for online flash games and the like
Away trip organisation
