Who should be given Maynard's spot?
I know the obvious choice would be young mason. But is he a bit too green to be a main forward this season? Malky has a few choices as far as I can see.
1) Keep the 4-5-1 formation that we had for the Millwall game - Heider is more than capable of playing the lone frontman role. Problem with this is that I'm not sure this formation is the best choice for every game. It's a little too defensive for me and I would like to see a general setup to be the same that has won us our last three home games.
2) Bellamy to sit just off Helguson in a 4-4-2 formation - this would free us up to have Bo-Kyong and Noone on the wings, with conway and cowie as backup.
3) Or alternatively, given mason or velijonka a chance.
For me, the best out of the above would be number 2 - I think Bellamy would be lethal in that role and with still excellent support out wide. I would certainly not like to see Malky changing the shape just to cover injury.
What do you think? Can you see anymore options?

All three are perfectly viable options, and I'm sure we'll see all of them as the season goes on. It just shows the strength of the squad that we've got up front.
I haven't seen anything of Veronika yet, so I'd be interested to see what he can do. But given Mason's performances last season, he's surely got to have a go soon.

Velikonja for me we spent enough on him but imo Malky will go with Mason.

I like Bellamy up tops with Helguson, but as we know Bellamy won't be available for every game. Maybe keep Bellamy on the bench for now and stick Mason up there with Helguson. It's good we can have debates like this as it means we have plenty of options.

Bellamy + Helguson preferably whenever Bellamy's fitness allows, otherwise Velikonja and Helguson. Velikonja and Helguson on paper are a match made in heaven -between them you have buckets of pace, buckets of power, aerial prowess and most importantly potent finishing.

Velikonja up top with Mason playIng off him. Helguson, in my opinion, encourages our defenders to pump aimless balls up to him with the hope of knock downs. Velikonja showed against Newcastle he has pace and strength. Play the game on the deck as we did in the second half against Leeds and these two will score goals for fun. Mason did well last season in a limited midfield. What will he do with the quality and pace we've got now?

Amen to that one brother. I was devasted when there were rumours in the close season about us shipping Mason, gutted about Maynard but Joe's time to shine

I think my chance is long overdue. The quality of our team means even someone with as limited ability as myself should be able to stick my foot in the way of crosses and start netting for fun. I'm also a free agent and I'm not greedy, I'd settle for 100k a year wage (touch over 2k a week). You know it makes sense Malky.
I heard reports that you were spotted outside the css with a signed piece of paper in hand in August. What happened?Red614 wrote:I think my chance is long overdue. Let's call it a conflict of interest. I thought he wanted me to play football, turns out he wanted me to work the burger van outside. I told him to shove it and sold my soul to Man United Burgers, I'm earning easily 10p extra an hour there.
