So here we are - life without Jones

***match day thread*** Reading v Cardiff City _46178238_0808jones

Ooooooops sorry. Wrong one! Never mind. Wish i could pull a leggy netball star.
I must get a good novel out and start reading at Reading who were formed in 1871 and are managed by Steve Clarke. Currently known as the royals, they used to be called the biscuitmen because of Huntley and Palmers association with the town. They also hold the record for the number of successive league wins at the start of a season, 13 at the start of the 1985/86 season. For 102 years they played at Elm Park and only moved to the Madejski in 1998. Reading's best ever performance in the FA cup was in 1927 when the lost in the semi final at Wolverhampton to Cardiff City, who as you all know went on to win the competion. Here we are at the land of the parasites and that means we will be in our famous bolshie red, Red. ***match day thread*** Reading v Cardiff City _82012519_madjeskistadium

Reading could hand debuts to loan signings Nathan Ake and Kwesi Appiah, who have arrived from Chelsea and Crystal Palace respectively.

Steve Clarke will be without midfielder Danny Williams (suspension) and striker Simon Cox, who picked up a knock in training.

Cardiff manager Russell Slade could field a new strike force against the Royals with Conor McAleny and Eoin Doyle set to start up front.

Federico Macheda (back) misses out.

MATCH FACTS
Head-to-Head

• Reading won the last meeting 2-1 at the Cardiff City Stadium in the FA Cup in January - their first win in four meetings in all competitions.
• Cardiff won the earlier league meeting this season 2-1 at the Cardiff City Stadium in November.
• Cardiff are unbeaten in the last five meetings at the Madejski Stadium in all competitions, winning two. Reading's last win at home was 5-1 in the Championship in January 2006.

Reading

• Reading have won only one of their last six games in the Championship. Their only league win since 21 February was 2-1 against Brighton at home on 10 March.
• Reading have won their last two home games in all competitions. Their other win at the Madejski Stadium was 3-0 against Bradford in the FA Cup on 16 March.

Cardiff

• Cardiff have won two of their last three games, drawing the other. Their last defeat was 2-1 against Charlton at home on 7 March.
• Cardiff are unbeaten in their last five away games, winning the last three. Their last defeat on the road was 2-1 at Middlesbrough on 20 January.

We can climb into the top half with a win tomorrow, but I'm going with a 1-1 draw.

I hope Slade does have the bottle to play Doyle & McAleny up front and try to play football on the ground.

There is a lot of talk about not letting the season fizzle out, but playing for the highest finish possible. To me that is exactly the right approach, given the disappointment what has gone before.

If that can be believed, then I'll try to be more positive than of late and go for a 1 - 0 win for City.

Normal service resumed. 1 down and playing hoofball.

Slade contrary to anyone who thinks otherwise is not up to the job.

Maybe Bruno Ribeiro, who's being linked in Portugal to take over in the summer from Slade could be a better prospect.

For most of us, anybody with any 'footballing history' would be a better proposition for next season. Might it just be that after doing the 'hatchet job' and clearing the decks, that he will leave and we will get a decent manager who will be allowed to bring in his own type of player. (On a budget to shop at Lidl and Aldi rather than M&S and Waitrose of course.)

Good amount of possession, but not much shape by the sound of it.
