Athletic Club de Bilbao vs Cardiff Dragons

Right - my guess of score and team is as follows:
Cardiff 3 - Bilbao 0 (Whitts, Kim, Kim)
Formation: 4-4-2 (Due to midfield injuries to Mitch & Gunnars - who should feature at some point but as a sub maybe?)
Marshall
Brayford Hudson Caulker Taylor
Noone Whitts Kim Bellamy
Maynard Campbell - (Is any of these chaps injured actually?)

Athletic Bilbao beat Manchester United in the Europa league last season with a 5-4 aggregate, including a 3-2 win at Old Trafford.
We just beat them 2-1. Let that sink in for a moment.

Well, two seasons ago. Haven't they got rid of all their decent players since then?Red614 wrote:Athletic Bilbao beat Manchester United in the Europa league last season with a 5-4 aggregate, including a 3-2 win at Old Trafford.

To call March of last year two seasons ago is pretty damn nit-pikky, especially when this season hasn't started yet either. And they finished 12th in La Liga last season, a league which is arguably superior to the premier league.

Gloves is right that they aren't quite the same team that thrashed United, and it's also important to remember a pre season friendly is very different to the closing stages of a European competition. Nonetheless though I still reckon it sends a big message.davewebber65 wrote:my son follows man u and when i told him the score he was amazed

Athletic Bilbao looked a good side. Passed it neatly and quickly and dominated possession for large parts of the game.
That is why City's perfomance and the result today was so satisfying.
We are not going to outperform and outpass the best of the teams in the Prem. Often we will need to ride our luck a little, maintain our shape, work hard and finally take our chances when they arise.
Today we did exactly that and it was the kind of performance that will prove invaluable on many occasions through the coming season - and things should only get better as more quality is added to the team and the squad in the coming weeks

Same as last season.... No finesse, unsophisticated, inelegant football... But a win... Personally I think it's going to be a grim campaign.... UNLESS... Medel, Montero et al bring home the bacon and Montero MUST sign cos Cowie, Smith, Conway will NEVER cut the mustard
