More specifically, what nationality will our first player be? (Not including England)
I'll go with Iceland

It's going to be overused for some time now, but surely we should take some inspiration from what Germany's teams have done to 'the best the worlds ever known'.
Teams like Swansea have adopted the Spanish way successfully, and there's no point trying to tackle them head on like that. But if we build a squad based around the current German ethos of being unbreakable at the back but ten clinical when a chance arises, we could surprise them. Let ten have 70% posession, let them have 90% pass accuracy, it doesn't mean squat if they can't get through our defence and then we use every chance we have to score. Besides, the best way to avoid premiership relegation is not to keep trying to win, but to ensure you don't lose. That method is more suitable for that.
Easiest and quickest way to achieve that is to buy players that are already used to the sort of playstyle, from Germany.

I assume you mean nationality rather than which country he's currently playing in?
I'll go Holland (based on the latter rule).

I'm going to say a surprise signing from somewhere in South America. Perhaps some Argentinian.

Tradition demands that we should first annex the Sudetenland, then invade Poland.
