Jose Mourinho says he wants to be where he's loved. He knows he's loved in England (??), and knows he's loved by some clubs, "especially one". Clearly been keeping an eye on Rafa's situation at Chelski, then.

Of all people, Alan Sugar made an interesting point regarding Mourhinho. He brought success at Chelsea, with a billionaires backing. He brought success at Real Madrid, with a billionaires backing.
It has to be wondered how he would cope as manager of a team like Portsmouth, with a bog standard squad and no money to spend.

Some managers are more suited to big clubs and handling the egos, others not so. The provision of limitless funds will not guarantee success, if the right manager is not in place........

I've heard Sam Allardyce express similar views about it being easy to be successful when you've plenty of money. But I think Allardyce would still make a pig's ear of managing the likes of Chelsea or Real Madrid.Red614 wrote:Of all people, Alan Sugar made an interesting point regarding Mourhinho. Mourinho made his name by being successful at Porto. Did he have billionaire backing there as well? Obviously money helps, but it's not much use if you're crap at management.

He also won the Champions League with Porto without a billionaires backing and with Inter who had an ageing squad (as Rafa then went on to find out )

Pretty much my opinion too. I dispute that Porto is proof he can do without a solid team, because Porto have always been among the best in their country and Europe, a club floating in mid table with no cash is very different.
I mentioned a similar point regarding Malky - that taking a bad team and making it good and taking a good team and making it great are two very different managerial scenarios, and certain managers are good at one but not the other.
