Is it really the end of the world if get relegated?

Just a question...if we went down, would it be a complete disaster? Yes, it would be disappointing but surely not the end of the world? 

The championship is a good league and we would be a big fish in a smaller pond once again enjoying the thrills of chasing promotion. 

Of course, there are the financially implications...but providing we could continue, I wouldn't be devastated forever

From a purely football perspective, it would be a disaster but not the end of the world. Questions would be raised about our ability to hold onto Medel, Caulker, Kim etc, but many a team has yoyo'd back down to the championship but come back stronger. It would give chances for players like Daehli, Eikrem and Berget to mature and grow, and we'd be all the stronger for it.

What does genuinely scare the life out of me though is how Tan would react. I keep getting told 'he wont walk away until he gets his money back', but surely if the club starts resembling a money hole then any decent businessman will realise its time to cut your losses and run. And as of right now, we would owe him hundreds of millions of pounds, much more than we owed before he arrived and with no clarification of the interest fees he would charge. I dont see him writing off the debt until our premiership survival is achieved, so im genuinely worried about what will happen if we are relegated.

Caulker and Medel would be certainties to leave but beyond that we could keep the squad together. Judging by what I've seen based on how we have played under OGS I think we would make a quick return to the Prem playing attacking football. And I could live with that, provided that OGS could build his team the way he wants it the following summer when we came back up.

I think Tan is pragmatic and his extreme reaction over the Malky / Moody affair was borne out of sense of betrayal by someone he had put complete trust in. I am sure that he understands that our Prem survival is not guaranteed, but he has still thrown more money at his investment and maybe is looking at a "bounce-back" scenario.

One thing is for sure, Dave Jones won't be selling any pipe dreams to Tan.......he'll tell him how it is and what needs to be done......and that is backing OGS, which DJ does.

We may well lose players, but probably not at a financial loss and we know that the nucleus of the squad is good enough to hold its own in he Championship.

I'm beginning to wonder if Vincent Tan is already preparing for life back in the Championship next season. Most of our January signings to date are quite clearly players for the future, with a eye to us returning to the Championship. I wouldn't expect either Eikrem or Berget to play a significant part in our fight for Premier League survival. If we are relegated, Caulker will certainly leave along with Mutch and Medel. But hopefully we will have the basis of a side able to compete for promotion once again.
If we do, as we all hope, that we retain our Premier League status this season, then they  I suspect, along with Kenwynne Jones, will simply be squad players next season.

I would be disappointed, Not the end of world, providing we came bk up within a season or 2.

I also think we would lose Marshall and probably Noone, both of whom will have caught the eye of other PL clubs this season. Kimbo would presumably look to move abroad. Obviously Zaha would be elsewhere, so we would need to find a cutting edge. That said, there should be cash in the kitty from selling these players.

I disagree, Tan made a massive amount of funds available and was happy for that to be public knowledge. A man who hands a new manager 25 million to prepare for the championship is extraordinarily stupid.

OGS has spent nothing like £25 M. If he was buying players to simply address the relegation issue he would have spent all the money available on experienced players who could hit the ground running. Buying players from Molde, a team playing in a league ranked 27th in Europe is not, in my opinion, a way of solving the current situation which the club finds itself in. I think OGS is, quite rightly, hedging his bets.

Despite recent results I don't think Cardiff will get relegated. I came very very close to backing them to get relegated but I no longer see it happening..However I do think it would be horrendous as I don't see Cardiff bouncing back. If Cardiff got relegated it might be easier to take if they beat Swansea again!

Results are dreadful for us again tonight. Sunderland and Villa have won, and West Ham are holding Chelsea. We have to put a run together soon or it will be a miserable end to the season.

It's amazing how all of the bottom half teams are competing and not dying a painful death
