Excuse me why I go laugh my ass off at Brendan Rodgers again making himself look as stupid as physically possible.
He calls him a 'holding' midfielder, which while a legitimate role, actually means in Brendan terms 'pass the ball sideways as much as possible'. The article also reads how Liverpool fans were 'visibly very excited' to see Joe Allen emerge and that there were gasps of anticipation whenever he touched the ball. I wonder how those gasps ended when he back passed the ball straight to Crouch, huh?
Joe Allen will be a good player one day, but lets not get ages of ourselves, 15M is ludicrously overpriced. Calling him the new Paul Scholes and saying he'd of spent millions more, just makes Brendan Rodgers look ridiculous.

I quite liked Brendan at Swansea; he did a good job not just keeping Swansea comfortable in the Premiership, but by playing a decent style of football and taking some notable scalps along the way.
Now he has turned into "Brenda - Cult Leader!" and with every passing utterance seems completely at home with the remedials and f@ckwits who gravitate to Anfield these days.
I hope Joe Allen makes a big success of his move to Liverpool, for his own sake and for Wales, but currently he fits neatly into the "British born, good, but overpriced" basket; a short bookend to Andy Carroll.

Joe Allen is a fine player, don't get me wrong. Too many of his passes are backwards or sideways for my liking but you can't doubt the effect he's had on the teams passing statistics. There's nothing wrong with keeping your passing safe, Barcelona have built their reputation on that ethos.
But, lets not get ahead of ourselves. You can't call him the next Paul Scholes, a man with a legendary career, because he was good at a small club and he's had a few good matches in a big club. You only have to compare his price to the price Arsenal paid for Cazorla to see he was ludicrously overpriced. They play the same passing style, and I know which one I'd prefer, especially since you'd have a hell of a lot of change left.
I also used to like Brendan Rodgers, he did a good job with Swansea. Since then he's gone down in my opinion. Regardless of the fact Swansea are our rivals, his ruthless theft of both their players and their hopeful transfers immediately after he leaves them is ridiculously disrespectful. He's also become completely obsessed with turning Liverpool into Swansea, even when he's failed to bring in enough of the right players. It's fine trying to work a new ethos into a club, but you do it slowly and work with the strengths you DO have in the meantime. He's not doing that and their league position displays it.

bottom line is allen is overrated...
Not worth the money they paid, nor too are 90% of Liverpool signings in the last couple of years. Allen will never be as good as Ramsey IMO for the simple fact that Ramsey will attempt - and often pull off - the killer ball.
I see Rodgers has hit out at Alan Shearer this week because he criticised Allen's sidewards passing.

Allen is a great footballer but has a way to go until he can be compared with the likes of Scholes.
Though I will say that Allen's tackling is better than Scholes'!

The statistics prove that is false. A lot of his passes are forward.

'A lot of'...exactly. The vast majority should be forward for a player in his role. Very, very, very, few should be going backwards. You can give me statistics but I've seen it with my own eyes countless times. Safe, boring passing when there is a perfectly good attacking opportunity.

You need to remember this is a player who has filled the DM role on many occasions.
