Announced on the CCFC official website.
Apart from being an extra body and his experience what does he add to the squad?

For the first time in my lifetime we have a midfield that can give it all one week while being rested the following week. No burn out or injury worries for us this season

I don't want to see him function as a pure striker, I don't feel he's good enough. I'd like him to take a place either on the wings or in central attacking midfield, hopefully though as back-up and not first team. What he does is then contribute to a powerful 'back-up' midfield that will still compete in the league. Our first team midfield (in my eyes Conway, Mutch, Whitts, Gunnarrson and Kim/Bellamy) in my opinion are now becoming premiership quality. Then we have the back-up midfield comprising of people like Ralls, Kiss, Cowie, now Smith who can also rival for one of the most solid midfield in the league. It means on our best days we are very, very powerful, and on our resting period we should still be expecting regular wins, not looking for draws. In 5 strong midfield we then also have enough strikers to cover a rotation too. If Helguson is the striker of choice for the first team then I'd like to see Velikonja or Mason utilised alternatively in a rotation.
Basically, I hope he doesn't add too much to the first team, as I think he's below par. He does however bolster our rotation possibilities quite significantly. I think no one can deny our problems last year were mostly due to the small squad size and fatigue setting in. With larger numbers of better quality players this time around, fatigue hopefully won't ever be an issue.
EDIT - just saw the transfer fee was apparently 300,000 pounds, which has eased the concerns I expressed about us being overkeen on grabbing him. I don't know his wages, but the transfer fee is pretty much in bargain levels for us now.

He scored a great goal against Wigan last season, which I would try to find on youtube if I wasn't in work.
Decent player, but I'd be far more excited about someone like Wilfried Zaha from Palace, who has pace and would make real difference.

I'm sure their big deep pockets will keep them busy.

As long as they all know that Malky is somewhat averse to squad rotation, as witnessed by the stubborn persistence of sticking with Miller last season.
