No, not that tackle, the one on Valencia last night.
It was late, over the top and a scissor tackle yet ITV and today's rags are blaming Valencia for reacting (he could have had his leg broken) and the ref.
Good job it wasn't Valencia doing that to Sterling - there would be outrage.

If two feet off the ground with the leading leg over the ball is nothing I dread to think what something is!

I don't think it's that bad either. Just a good old fashioned slide tackle by the time he got to the player.
On the tackle, when I saw it I thought it was a yellow and a red was harsh but I'm from the school of thought that says football should be physical and a bit rough - more like ice-hockey
Watching again though, Sterling is late and goes right through Valencia's standing leg at lower knee/shin level. If Valencia hadn't been as nimble then that's potentially a break, so with hindsight, I'd say a red.

I've only spoken to two people about it - one is a football journalist and the other an ex pro footballer who both thought straight red but at least we can differ without a problem on here. (Although anybody with a different view to mine is obviously wrong).
However, the ref was ridiculously extravagant showing the red.

A Welshman complaining about an English footballer? There's something you don't see everyday...

You're absolutely right Red. I'm usually complaining about the whole team not just one of them.

Easily a straight red for me. Late and high, catching the standing leg.

On a serious note though I agree it's a red. Id also add that I don't think that sort of challenge would ever be made in a friendly just before the World Cup. Yes Ecuador aren't playing, but if England open the floodgates then you can't blame them if they return fire. What if the Ecuador team, furious with sterlingd unpunished tackle, went on to snap Steven Gerrards leg just before his final World Cup?

This was the subject of much discussion at the golf club today and the concensus of the wise and grey was that it wasn't that bad.
Sterling has caught him with his trailing knee, not the leading foot, but in 1965, it wouldn't have been a foul in any event.
