David Beckham has not been selected for the Great Britain Olympic football squad.

The 37-year-old former England skipper wanted to captain Team GB at London 2012.
Beckham said: "Naturally I am very disappointed, but there will be no bigger supporter of the team than me.
"I would have been honored to have been part of this unique Team GB squad. Like everyone, I will be hoping they can win the gold."

That's a shame - I thought he deserved to be in the squad after all the work he has put in so far.

I don't think the rest of the squad have been confirmed yet.

The three over 23 players are Micah Richards and Cardiff City's front two next season, Giggs and Bellamy. Be honest you thought I was gonna say Miller. :laughingabit:

Thank goodness for that. Way past it and a supposedly serious GB team can do without Brand Beckham.

I think it would have affected the credibility of the team if he had been given a place. It should be based on merit and he’s playing a much lower standard of football.

If they choose the 3 ‘overage’ places in the squad wisely they could have a decent team. Bellamy is allegedly one of them?

Bellamy, Giggs & Micah Richards according to reports this morning (I'm not convinced about Giggs either!).

Hmmm...yeah, not sure about Giggs.
I'd maybe have gone for Charlie Adam.

Poor Giggs, one of the worlds best players in his day, has never got to be involved in a major world tournament - this will be a nice send off from him.

To be fair, he could have easily made the England squad a decade-ish ago...it's a scandal that he didn't even get a single cap David Beckham not selected for London 2012 squad 3392635135

I would have liked to see him there, great role model.
