The booing of Whittingham by a significant proportion of the crowd today when he was substituted was, in my opinion, was an absolute disgrace. Yes he was having a poor game, but he has been an excellent servant of Cardiff City over a number of years and deserves better. I personally think that OGS shouldn't have selected him today because in recent weeks he has been struggling to find his best form. But he was picked and I'm certain he didn't try and play badly.
The players reaction to the crowd at the end of the game and Bellamy's words after the game says it all.

Totally agree, I thought some sections of the fans today by their constant verbal harassment of the players just made things worse. The team was under enough pressure as it was and their play in the first half reflected that added harassment.

If we want to stay in this league, the players, management and fans need to support each other. Simple really.

I was in the Canton and there were blokes losing their patience and shouting abuse in the first ten minutes. Whitts was awful and rightly subbed but he should have been allowed to walk off without any booing or cheering. When Bellamy scored he celebrated by putting his finger to his lips.

Same in the family stand, my 11 year old heard words today shouted by men with young kids with them that he has never heard before. They should be ashamed at themselves. It's going to be a stressful few months and those fans need to get behind the players.

agree with your sentiments, but in all honesty i certainly was happy to see the end of whitts and i suspect most of you were. with so much at stake today let him without sin cast the first stone.

it has taken us many years of stressful campaigning to get us in the premier league and up to today we looked like going straight back down without even a wimper. fans needed unleash frustration.

to just hold up your hands in horror when whitts is given some venom is maybe a little unfair.

No player deserves to be booed Dave just because they are having a bad day. It's not their fault the manager picked them. Whitts has been brilliant for us before, and if he rediscovers the form he had a few seasons ago he would be right up there challenging Mutch and Medel for best player on the pitch. Booing him is just going to destroy his confidence and lower the chances of him rediscovering that form even more.

He needs to be dropped to allow time to get his head together and earn his place in the squad again. If that doesn't happen, he should move on to a level he is more comfortable in. He does NOT deserve to be booed.

Agree that those who were booing should be ashamed....short, short memories. Whitts is a bit of a square peg in a round hole this season, playing in a midfield that has spent the best part of 21 games getting over run by the opposition.

We have a decent midfield squad, but rotation is needed. As it does with Gunnarsson, a rest will do Whitts the world of good.

There's always been a moronic element, it's just more apparent when the crowd is 20,000+ rather than 2,000.

The booing when the team retained possession by playing the ball back to Marshall a few times in the first half was pathetic.

Agree with that G-Ster. All I could hear round me when we were retaining possession was 'get it up there' and 'get into them'. Complete dicks.

^^

Glad to see Bellamy highlight it in his comments, it was absolutely pathetic. The last game I attended (Southampton) our fans done the same, albeit when we were three goals behind.

It can be so frustrating at times, but what good can booing a player do - especially one as synonymous as Cardiff City as any other.

Excellent article regarding the Whittingham situation. Particularly because it highlights the curious logic that protesting against Tan midmatch is avoided because it might disrupt the team, but mass booing of the players is apparently fair game.

Unfortunately logic and fair are not words which some of our so called fans understand. Just read some of the comments by posters on AAMB. Absolutely incredible. One guy even suggests that Bellamy should apologise to the fans for his comments after the game!

You don't honestly expect to find considered informed comment on that board!  They have some good contributors, but the majority come across as complete d*ckheads.

Spot on Red. Imo Whitts is now suffering from being messed about by MM when he seemed determined to change a naturally gifted, excellent passer of the ball and attacking midfielder into a robotic defensive player. There is no doubt that PW is a very talented footballer and those now booing him during a loss of form need to remember just what he has done for CCFC teams during the time he has been with us. Form is temporary skill is permanent.
