Talk about stating the obvious, No Transfers Until After Newcastle Game 692773407

New Cardiff boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed he has already spoken with chairman Mehmet Dalman about possible January transfer window signings - but insisted he will not make any moves until watching the current crop of Bluebirds in action against Newcastle on Saturday.

Solskjaer has been pouring over scouting reports from the Malky Mackay era and will assess which areas of his squad need strengthening after the FA Cup clash against the Geordies.

The Norwegian has already been linked with a move for Molde star Mats Møller Dæhli, with significant funds thought to be available over the coming weeks.

But Solskjaer is keen to stress his desire to give the Bluebirds players every chance to impress before asking Vincent Tan to open his cheque book.

"I have had chats with Mehmet Dalman and the scouting department here and about the players they have been scouting and looking at. I had a list of them but that is not my priority now," he said.

"My priority is the game and lets get it out of the way and look to see what we need.

"I like working with young, enthusiastic players. The kind of lads we have here who work hard and want to impress and I will do my very best to scout good, young players.

"But we have players like Craig Bellamy as well who has that Premier League experience to be able to help the kids who have done so well in the Championship.

"There are names popping up everywhere. I have had a list of players the club have followed from before and it is important we acknowledge the work they have done and I have my view on a couple of players I know from before.

"Everybody has got a clean sheet of paper to impress. Everybody has got the chance to impress every single day, impress me and the coaching staff as we don’t know them personally.

"That’s the main thing now when I come in here. I can speak to the players and communicate with them as I want to get to know their personalities.

"They are in the time of their lives. They are playing football. I wish I was playing again, but I’m not. I love having conversations with the players and looking at their mindsets."

Solskjaer admitted his players were relieved the club was emerging from months of turmoil that have clearly had an affect on the pitch.

"I think the players have been looking forward to some stability and everything being settled. If you don’t have a manager, the players will be affected.

"Now it’s settled they are all looking to impress and hoping to play.

"Everybody at the club has had issues to deal with lately. But just coming in and seeing everyone smile is good. They are good football people. I

"It has been great speaking to a few of the players, speaking to them about what we are trying to do in the future. So it has been a lot of impressions and I cant wait for the game of football to get going."

The new manager is set to implement a more attacking philosophy than the cautious approach of Mackay, but he insisted he is not about to rip up everything that has come before.

"We will build on what they are already about," he said.

"That’s important to acknowledge that. The shape of the team has been very good and some individual performances have been very good.

"At times they have looked really exciting with the energy and enthusiasm.

"There is always a desire to play attacking football. First and foremost you must have the foundation right to earn the right to play that.

"But the lads here have a great attitude. Now it is about giving them the confidence to have a go. We will have to because we are in the Premier League and its no good being tentative.

"They have to be able to express their talents so of course it is a period of transition early on and we have to try and implement our ideas as quickly as possible

I think I like him more everytime I hear him speak.

Exactly right that an evolution of Malky's style is needed, not a revolution. Malky made , from a defensive perspective, the best Cardiff City set up the club has possibly ever known. If that remains but also develops a potent attacking threat, then midtable is perfectly in reach.

Agreed, Theres seems to be a fresh of breath air around the city at the moment, unlike all the negative press in recent weeks

I think there will still be at least three first team players arriving in January.

It's clever of Ole as he can play a team against Newcastle that doesn't feature players that he definitely wants to keep, such as Caulker and Medel, and will encourage the others to give everything to stay at the club and not be transfer listed.
