I don't think Marshall can afford another shaky match. Lewis is too good an understudy to ignore.
Marshall had a bad day at the office on Saturday but he's still our most experienced keeper. As long as that was just a blip then he'll be fine.
Joe Lewis maybe an able deputy right now but I would still go with Marshall for this one.

True, but Lewis has nearly 200 first team appearances and England caps right through from U-15 to U-21.
Not disputing that, he's a very good keeper but defensive units grow and develop together. Marshall has been at the heart of that for many a season now and, most importantly, with the current back four. Chopping and changing that before a vital game is not ideal preparation in my view.
If he has another clanger (and EVERY keeper has at least one game a season) then by all means a change could be due but, right now, he's still the best option in my eyes.

Also...let's be honest, before Saturday. some in the press were saying that Marshall was the best keeper in the league currently. Now of course that is exaggeration but none the less, Marshall has been superb for us.
Let's not be too hasty to drop him after one bad game. Besides, we were never going to come home with a point from standford bridge anyway.

I don't think anyone has said that Marshall should be dropped for the next game. However, if his confidence has been damaged and he has another bad game, then there is a very able deputy waiting in the wings.Rhys wrote:Also...let's be honest, before Saturday. some in the press were saying that Marshall was the best keeper in the league currently. As for last Saturday, who knows what might have happened if Chelsea hadn't been gifted that equaliser........the ref might have got it wrong, but it was a real kick in the goolies, all the same!
