"I think England played in a very prudent and careful way," he said.
"They were sitting back for the match like Chelsea did in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich."
Pirlo, 33, added: "They tried to keep that same shape. For them going to a penalty shoot-out was already a good result."

I think he's been very fair and factual there. I don't think many England fans would disagree with the above

It's funny to me because England got really embarrassed in that game, and Pirlo is saying getting to penalties was already beyond their wildest dreams It would have been a travesty if England had won the penalty shoot-out.

Absolutely, fortunately all the strongest teams in the quarters progressed. From what I've heard from pundits, read in the papers, and from conversations with English fans though, they are in total agreement with him. England are some distance behind the top teams in Europe at the moment. With a population of 52 million and arguably the best league in Europe it's shocking really

Wrong manager IMO.
Ol' 'arry would have been a much better choice. Funny how it all pans out though.
I fear something similar is going to happen to us under Coleman

The difference is we had a great manager who passed away. we were a team that was on the way up! England have been in the same place for years and for some reason there are england fans who think there a world class team! They need a whole new team in my opnion. should have not picked the oldies and picked the younger player in order to get them ready for the next big tournament.

Problem with having the best league in the world, means you've a lot of the best players from all over the world. Look at countries like Germany, whos Bundesliga has a higher majority of home grown players than the Prem. Similarly to Spain and Italy.
