I don't think this is a situation where Malky needs to explain anything to the squad. We are missing our two first choice central defenders and while Nugent alongside Hudson in an on form Cardiff side looked decent Nugent, in my opinion, struggled badly against Leicester as the defense came under more pressure due to our midfield ineptitude.
I am not sure Barnett thrown in alongside Connolly is going to help as far as the next game is concerned. They will barely have time for a training session together and Barnett is likely to be rusty not having played much lately. Nevertheless his signing does give Malky the option to take Nugent out of the firing line. I think that is needed at the moment.

It's an acknowledgement from Malky that things can't carry on as they are and that's a start.

not so sure nugent was to blame as at least he did try and pass his way out of trouble instead of hoofing upfield. just remember that over the last couple of years leicester have assembled a tidy squad, so have we, but ours is not rotated

They don't need to be rotated Dave as they are already following orders and running around in circles.

Leon Barnett once got a two match ban for throwing the ball at the referee after recording a red card. He is also quite prone to rough tackles, picking up many red cards in his career.
None of this is really criticism, but is this a sign Malky's concrete block of stubbornness to only hire goody two shoes finally cracking?

Barnett looks like a shrewd choice. Plenty of experience at this level & higher and seems to be a proper footballer, not just a stopper.
Given that Norwich have tried to offload him as a makeweight to Brum in Jan, I wouldn't be surprised he came to us permanently, "à la Lappin".

I would be worried if a manager was explaining the signings he makes to the team, that would be a bit too much of a laissez-faire management style for me!
I'm happy with Barnett, can play anywhere in the back four and has a fair but if experience. It means we aren't over reliant on super Kev
