Attendance

Just noticed, City had the second highest attendance (just under 24,000) of the Championship weekend. Brighton got close to 27,000 on Friday against Sheffield Wednesdave.
Reckon that's pretty good in a division that contains a whole load of ex-Premier teams and some pretty big and historic clubs. Not sure it would've been the same had Leeds or the above had played at home, but still VERY respectable and a sign that the rebrand hasn't done too much damage in that respect.

Thinking about it, Brighton are a very similar club to us. While we have have much of South Wales and The Valleys to call upon they pretty much have the whole South East Coast to themselves.
Until Crawley got promoted, their nearest team was Palace and/or Portsmouth both of which are a good 50 miles away, with no professional team in the South East at all.
Just thought I'd make that observation as I while away the hours in work...

Actually, I think it's short for Hovel.

Oh, maybe that's an abbreviation for sHovel.
Or maybe not.

Thx Arkay for the update
I really think come jan we will see 25 thousand plus most home games aslong as we are up there in the running.
Does anyone know when the work on the new training ground will start?

Yeah, I think you are right. We may even need that the stadium expansion early than thought- maybe next summer.
Just need to get rid of Hammam to get the ball rolling? Or is it going to happen anyway, initially as debt but then assets?

Even if the team keeps winning, I think the crowds will stay around 22-23k.
Saturday's attendance was helped by a larger than normal Away section.

Just to add to this - and it is early days yet - in the overall average attendance list we are 5th.
Brighton - 25,568
Sheff Wednesdave - 25,065
Leeds -24,078
Derby - 24,022
Cardiff - 22,327
Wolves - 22,097
Forest - 21,352
Leicester - 21,259
Then it drops off below 20,000.
I'm quite surprised by this to be honest.
Brighton have the highest, which I would never have guessed. I suspect that's something to do with being on a crest of a wave - they had a shitty stadium (I mean, a REALLY shitty stadium) for years, plus a recent promotion and a promising first year in the Championship with some good summer signings. As a stated above, they have a big cachement area too. They might surprise a few people this year.
I'm also surprised that the next three teams don't have more. I know they are big clubs who have fallen on harder times of late but I always thought that their fan figures hadn't dropped off as much as that, or that City would be so close to them. It also surprises me that we're be above Forest, Wolves and Leicester - clubs in my mind who have always been better supported than us. I'm clearly wrong on that but just goes to show, the potential is there for us if we can fulfil it.
Is anybody else surprised by this, or is it just me?

Yeah, it was one of those anomalies that, like Leeds,, when they dropped down to the third tier they were still pulling in sizeable crowds. Seems they have quite a loyal following.
Here's some interesting attendance stats. We fair quite well across Europe too.

Swansea aren't even in the top 100. Pathetic club.
