Gareth Bale's agents last night released a statement saying he chose to drop out due to his belief Team GB have no chance of winning a medal. He plays for Wales, who have never won anything, and Tottenham, who in his lifetime only have one League Cup win. Both however pay him large salaries, while GB would not of. You could say he's just another Welshman taking a (perfectly acceptable) stance against the ethos of GB football, but that didn't stop him being a poster boy for the team when it was first announced. They also probably paid him for that too.
Is Bale now revealed as a money grabbing liar? Discuss.

Yep
Nope. If it was him 'refusing' to play for Wales it would be another matter. Because it's GB to me it is a matter of choice, he chose not to play for them for whatever reason, and I respect his decision.

My issue isn't so much he refused to play, as I said there's many reasons why a Welshman wouldn't want to play and that's no problem at all. My issue is with his apparent reasoning. I thought I was rid of hearing 'there's no point in playing because we won't win anyway' in the playground, it's childish and a bit pathetic. Who here played a football game in school and, the moment you scored, the other team decided they weren't playing anymore? Apparently, that's Gareth Bale. And as I said in my first post, it's clearly not the truth. If he doesn't want to play internationally unless there is a chance you can win, why is he happy to play for Wales? It's not meant to be an insult towards Wales, it's just the honest truth that a world or European cup won't be coming their way anytime soon.
All he needed to say was he decided it wasn't in his interests to play anymore. Don't come up with an excuse that makes him sound like a five year old having a tantrum.

If that's how he feels he shouldn't have agreed to become a poster boy beforehand.

Exactly. Plus it's not exactly complimentary to people like Ramsey and Bellamy, because he's basically saying 'sorry guys you're not good enough so I can't be bothered'
