Impeachment inevitable?

Well that was quicker than I thought, calls for Trump to get the sack. I thought Trump would make it to Christmas - shall we take wagers on when he will be gone? I think he'll now be gone by October.

As reported:
A congressman in the US has called for the impeachment of Donald Trump in Congress.
Al Green today said: ‘No one is above the law and that includes the President of the United States of America.’
He said that democracy was at risk over the sacking of FBI Director James Comey because he was investigating the president.
Mr Green said: ‘This offence has occurred before our very eyes. It is perspicuous. It is easy to understand. We are talking about a president who fired the FBI director who was investigating the president for his connections to Russian involvement in the president’s election.’

Forgive me for not being up to speed on US political procedures, but what happens if he does get impeached? Does the vice president take over, or is there another election...?

The main outcome is that the President is forced to dance naked for the amusement of the opposition party

Richard Nixon resigned after being impeached and his VP, Gerald Ford, took over and served out the rest of the term. In the present circumstances, with the Republican party's reputation being tarnished, I wonder if there would be more pressure for a fresh election.

Has that happened before in US history? Would be mighty interesting if not.

That's exactly the point. The credibility of the whole Republican movement, not only the President, is at stake.
