He said that when interviewed straight after the game last Monday. Yes I agree that in general the squad is not good enough to be kept together in the championship next season, but I also felt that was very much the case when we started this season under OGS, despite the 'fantasy football experts' claims that we had one of the strongest squads in the division.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I see the 'clear out' continuing during the summer and whoever is our manager for next season bringing in a load of fresh faces, probably inexpensive youngsters, to fit in with some of the older players who will remain, with a view to building a side rather than buying expensive Primadonnas. I hope that is the case, because, for me, the two previous managers wasted too much of VT's money, so hopefully the clear out we have been witnessing under Slade is a sign that Tan has finally woken up to the fact that many 'good' teams are built not bought.
Keep your money in your pocket Vinnie and let's build a team that wants to play for the club not just the wages.

There's not wasting your money, and then there's throwing pennies at the club and expecting gold dust. A middle ground still completely alludes Cardiff City. Still curious as to why Tan, when faced with Malky tampering with the accounts and overpaying left right and centre, allowed his successor to do the exact same thing. Pretty stupid for a self made billionaire.
No, the squad isn't good enough.

unless you have failed to notice, the squad is good enough for a mid table finish and it would also appear that we are good enough to beat leeds in yorkshire.
how much was he paid to write that? you know it is curious that all the experts seem to rush to print as soon as we have had a disasterous result.
under ogs we were in free fall and if there is one thing russell slade has to take credit for and that is stopping the slide, for that he will deserve at another season
if it were not for that self made billionaire we would not be having this conversation in the championship

I don't think for one minute that VT is throwing pennies at the club and expecting gold dust. Nor do I think that any self made billionairre is stupid. The facts are there for everyone to see. Tan came into City knowing virtually nothing about football, let alone British Football, and obviously thought that he was being given the best advice on how to develop the playing staff and commercial side of Cardiff City within the football league. Whoever advised him to change the shirt colour obviously didn't take into account the possibility of the extreme discontent that might cause amongst the fans, until it was too late. He might have thought that he had been given good advice in bringing in Malky, especially when his hastily gathered team reached Wembley in his first season and more so with the apparent on-field second season success which eventually led to promotion. The rest of course is now history, but you can't blame VT for now looking at doing things differently, especially when he looks around at the likes of Swansea, Southampton and Bournemouth, who seem to have been able to build teams that have been able to at least challenge for promotion from the Championship, without spending vast amounts of money.
As I have said in previous posts, you can't have things both ways. You don't want Tan spending money because you believe it increases the club debt to him, you don't want him cutting back on expenditure because it means 'so called' best players leaving the club. For this season we are safe in the Championship, so let's just wait until the end of the season to see which way things go with player departures and recruitments before attempting to predict the worse. You never know, the middle way might not have eluded City.

You are aware it's not a black and white decision right Lotty? That instead of just spending too much or spending too little, there's the idea of spending the amount a top end championship team should spend? That's what I want - and you'd think with 30 million pounds of parachute payments each season that should be a reasonable balance to find whilst still recouping money.
And break it down to its basics - he knows nothing about football so he hands total trust and financial control to the manager, who then cons him out of millions and completely destabilises the club. He then immediately does the exact same thing again, and again he's conned out of millions and the club nearly free falls into league one. Ever heard of 'fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me'? What part of that doesn't come across as baffling stupidity? I know absolutely nothing about Aussie rules football, but if I bought a club and got conned by my first manager, Id make damn sure I'm keeping my eye on the second.
And are you sure it's still going to be good enough next season Dave? Contrast how many points we earned in the first half of the season versus how many we are picking up in the second. If we carried on this fork next season on a fresh slate, we'd be eyeing the relegation places in no time.

i have not passed any comment about the squad, but i would say this the cull must continue with le fondre, mcnaughton, guerra, kiss, theopille-catherine, lewis nugent, velikonja, and maynard making the list.
it is our league position that is important and not the number of points aquired. when slade took charge we had played 11 for 13 points. a ratio of 1.18. since then we have played a further 31 games for 42 points. a ratio of 1.35. currently 1.69 gives you a play off place and 1 gives you a relegation spot.

Summer transfers will prob. be terrible for City, Tans collecting his money, relegation comes next season if Slade continues.
PL is miles away, just a dream.
