.....not forgetting that he also mentioned that it is Real Madrid's favoured formation too!

Quite frightening really. Wales Online have pointed out that Real Madrid don't actually play 4 - 4 - 2.
Well done Russell, a true student of the game............

As Slade mentioned, Real Madrid did indeed reach the latter stages of last season's Champions League by using a 4-4-2 formation ("or variations of it").
As it is I think we would be better off chucking a fifth man in midfield, but there we go.

I think that Real Madrid have slightly better players than City do and they are easily able to switch between formations, as dictated by the coach.
Slade has just the one set-up, which appears to isolate a large proportion of the more skilful or "flair" players in his squad.

Our best attacking players thus far this season have been Brayford and Fabio, but their wing antics have been picked on by Slade as our defensive shortcoming. I dont think thats the case - I think the problem was that OGS was attempting to use the somewhat suicidal technique of using wingbacks in a 4-4-2. Realistically you have to play five at the back or have a lot of faith in your holding midfielder. Gunnarrson is better at this level but still not quite there, so I'd rather play a back three of Manga, Turner and Connolly. Whether that leaves our bench a bit defensively void im not too sure however.
Take this with an even greater pinch of salt than usual however, as it's 2am.
