Danny Gabbidon would be open to becoming a Bluebird again as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gets set to step up his search for a centre-back.

Gabbidon impressed as he returned to the international fold in midweek , showing flashes of his old form as Wales put up a fight in defeat to the Brazil-bound Dutch in Amsterdam.

His performance earned plaudits from national boss Chris Coleman, but the 34-year-old will be hoping it also catches the eye of potential suitors having been left without a club following his release from Crystal Palace.

The 49-cap international was told he was free to go by Eagles manager Tony Pulis despite making 24 Premier League appearances last year – his most outings in the last four years after fighting back from a career-threatening groin problem.

Several clubs are thought to be looking at the former West Ham and QPR ace but it is understood the Cwmbran-born defender would relish the chance to link-up with Cardiff City for the second-time of his career.

Gabbidon first rose to prominence with Cardiff before making his switch to the top-flight with the Hammers and was close to returning to South Wales when Dave Jones made a move for him in 2011.

Cardiff are on the hunt for a centre-back as they brace themselves for the loss of captain Steven Caulker with Southampton joining Tottenham in the clubs believed to be targetting the England international.

While it is not clear whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would consider a Bosman swoop for the classy centre-back, it is understood Gabbidon would welcome any chance for a second stint with the club where he made his name

I'm sure he'd welcome a stint anywhere but, in my view, he's past it.

Yes, agreed cyncoed. I'm sure he would like to come to us but he would struggle to make the matchday squad imo

His experience might be useful as a squad player, particularly if we lose Hudson, which I feel we might, if he believes he is not going to be a regular starter, even now fit again.

Think he could do a job in the Championship - he was fairly regular in the PL last season after all. Probably more of a midtable side though rather than one chasing promotion.

I think this is clearly a story that is based on assumption rather than fact. Gabbidon would love the move, we are looking for a (reportedly) international centre-back, and OGS likes defenders who can play the ball out from the back.
