Anyone know stuff about gadgets?

A few years ago I knew a bloke that had this portable hard drive that he could plug into his TV and view whatever movies, TV shows and music he'd put on the hard drive in all kinds of formats. The drive had a screen on it where he could scroll through the folders on the drive to select what he wanted to watch or listen to.
Does anyone know where I can get one of those? Preferably a 1TB one?

Sounds like a media centre thingy, with it's own OS. No idea where to get one though

Yeah, I tried that, couldn't find what I was looking for though so I thought I'd see if there was anyone on here who knew what I was after.

Loads of these kind of things on ebuyer. Don't think many have screens anymore due to the fact it's easier and much better to have a decent UI to browse on the tv itself.
The WD live ones look good but may do more than you want them to do.

Looks pretty 'snazzy' to me man
Do you own a console or anything? I do a similar thing with my PS3 by connecting it via my wi-fi to my laptop and hard drive. I can then stream anything off them and the media server automatically converts it to PS3 friendly files. I'm sure the xBox does a similar thing.
Failing that, this looks like a good option.

Yeah, I've got my Xbox set up to stream from my PC already, it comes in handy. I want the media hard drives so I can load one with kids films for the telly in my daughters bedroom and the other one I'm going to fill with whole series of US TV shows for my parents. All 7 seasons of West Wing, all episodes of Cheers that sort of thing. I've been trying to get them to watch Arrested Development but I've got to make it easy for them to do it

What a cracking show...loved it. A number of the actors went on to get involved in Archer - definitely one of my favourite comedy shows atm.

Did some late night research and found it to be just the thing, plays all sorts of formats, MKV, AVI, MP4, VOB etc and seems to be a reliable piece of kit. I've had Western Digital stuff before and it always seemed sturdy and well made so I think I might just buy a couple.
