And in case you were wondering, this is not a cooking/baking thread either.
Been reading these with interest...

http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2014/feb/07/six-nations-2014-wales-ireland-rivalry?CMP=twt_gu
I have to say that all of this has mostly passed me by, so I was quite surprised to read all about it. Am I the only one in thinking that this is more of a team/player rivalry rather than a fan based one? (i.e. the exact opposite of the Swansea-Cardiff fixture, Bellers and a few others aside of course) Adam Jones seems to think so and I was curious.
Does anybody else feel any sense of animosity toward the Oirish team? I certainly don't but, as I said, this is news to me.
Any thoughts?

The Irish certainly aren't very find of the welsh team. They robbed them blind in their grand slam year with 'that' throw in.
Though god forbid an Englishman point out the 'perfect' grand slam comprised of robbing Ireland and a disallowed England try that should of stood...

As someone who's also an ex player and keen rugby watcher I tend to agree with those comments. The irish have on occasions recently had an arrogance bordering on unpleasant, particularly with players like O'Driscoll and O'Gara. This is similar to the unfounded arragance displayed by many English teams which has made them so unpopular in many sports, :smirksmiley:
From comments coming from the Irish camp (via the media, of course) those same allegations are being leveled at Wales too and especially Gatland. Intriguing.
At least everyone can agree about England...

Most top quality teams in whatever sport have a certain arrogance about them apart from the English who have low quality teams who nevertheless also have an unjustified arrogance about them.

Ironically, thats the most arrogant comment I've heard in a while...
And I'm a big England rugby fan. I dont have as much passion for the local game as I dont really have a team - I consider myself a lightweight Newport Dragons supporter, but its far from a love affair.
