It took guts yesterday to admit that he once played for West Ham.

Sorry, can't think of anything that isn't racist or homophobic, other than Alf Garnett must be turning in his grave........... coat

and scored, but seriously, after all the treatment that was dished out to justin fashanu you can hardly expect a gay footballer to come out of the closet

Why not? You're either gay or you're not, what's the big deal either way.

I had to endure SSN repeating this story for hours on end as if it's SPORTS NEWS, it's not sports news, it's one guy's lifestyle news. The fact that SSN kept banging on about it made it seem that it was something out of the ordinary....it's not.

Some people are straight, some are gay and some have the best of both worlds.....who cares?

SSN should talk about sport, not peoples' lifestyle choices! The clue is in the name.......Sky SPORTS News!!!!

Rant over  :threadkiller:

The world's no. 1 rugby referee (Nigel Owens) came out and the fuss was very brief. He's also never had any stick from crowds.
Unfortunately, football is different and abuse would be heaped on a gay footballer every week by opposing supporters. Perhaps that's why it's more of a story and it took a lot of guts.

I think Gareth Thomas attracted a bit more attention, as might be expected with a player, as opposed to a ref...... Thomas Hitzlsperger- A Brave Admission 4228682415

Forgot about him (which sums up the story). I don't think he got any stick from league or union crowds either.
