Cardiff stats reveal long ball football strategy

Cardiff are one of five Premier League teams, alongside West Brom, Norwich, Stoke and Southampton, not to have scored a first-half goal this season.

Despite attempting more shots than any other side (59, excluding blocks), Tottenham have only scored four times.

No Premier League club have played a higher percentage of long balls (over 35 yards) than Cardiff, with 15.4%.

Also, Tottenham have been desperately unlucky not to score many more than they already have. Vorm had a stunning game in goal for Swansea, any other goalkeeper would of conceeded at least three or four more. The critisicism of Soldado is probably unfair, he's made the most of every chance he gets but every goalkeeper he faces seems to pull off a miraculous save.

Regarding our long ball, I doubt anyone is that surprised. We've all seen it personally , afterall . Everyone wants to see their team play like Barcelona, but if Malky's somewhat disappointing defensive tactics deliver results, then I won't complain. Chelsea started playing some nice football under Benitez last season, but Mourinho (considered by many to be one of the greatest managers living), would like to revert back to defensive counter attacking football.
